Sunday AM

Blog 77
Our weekend was busy so I'm playing catch up. Silas's church grew out of a Seventh-day Adventist mission. Although they are no longer a part of that they still meet on Saturday. Right after breakfast we walked down to the church. It is about a quarter-mile away and we walked through Silas's farm to get there. As I mentioned the church is not finished the walls are up but there is no roof. Tarps are spread over the walls to create shade and shelter from any rain. There were about 80 people there including children. The program began with a Bible study on the life of Abraham. It was lead by the pastor, Joseph. During this time the children went with  Ann, Mary and Andrea for a lesson which Andrea presented. She chose the parable about the man who built his house upon the rock. After the lesson time to morning worship began. The children the adults and the youth all took turns in leading worship songs. Esther a 96-year-old woman loves to get up and dance while the singing is going on.  Ryan preach another sermon on discipleship and Gladys' brother whose name is also Silas translated.
Mary who is a widow donated the acreage for the church to be built. After service we went to her house next-door for lunch.  She is a kind smiling hospitable woman and we enjoy talking with her. Ann had developed a little bit of a queasy stomach over the course of the morning.  We did not stay long at Mary's and got Ann back up to Silas's house. She rested there while we returned for the 3:00 service. It started to rain as the sermon by Jeshua an overseeing pastor was ending. We waited under the tarps until the shower passed. I came back to check on Ann while the others went back to Mary's for tea. Thankfully Ann was feeling better. Soon Caleb and Gracie arrived. They were messengers to say that Silas, Ryan and Andrea were waiting for us on the other side of the corn field. We were invited to Joseph's house for dinner. Ann did not choose to go but I met them in a few minutes for the short walk up a red clay road.
Joseph is a school administrator and raises a few cattle on a farm near Silas. We had a good time in his home and returned after dark under an astounding canopy of sparkling stars. Ann had been taken care of by Silas' mom and niece Janet. When we returned Ann and Janet  were playing Blink, America's Fastest Card Game with Janet's sister and brother Maureen and Hillary.   The day soon ended as we bid everyone goodnight and turned in.
