Busy days have gotten me behind again. My last post ended on Sunday evening. Monday morning was the first day of class. The little red car was having trouble starting. We were down to the last try before Ryan and Silas were going to head down to the main road to seek public transportation. Then it started and they were off with the easel protruding from the trunk. Hillary was driving and Silas, Janet and Ryan were passengers. Ann studied that morning and I read and we prayed and I caught up on my blog.
After lunch I we all went out in a downpour ready to push start the little red car but it started so we all got in. I accompanied Ann, Hillary and Janet on the trip back to Ziwa. About half way there the engine died. Hillary disconnected the fuel line and after blowing into it and sucking on it and spitting out some gas got it going again. While Ann taught, I got all of our equipment charged up with the exception of the computer. I realized I had forgotten the cord. The road is in such disrepair that we wander from side to side seeking the best route. Sometimes we venture off onto the shoulder where some gravel paths have been cleared. After the rain most of these are puddles or slippery clay. The trip of just a couple of miles takes about 25 minutes. Safely home we had supper and a time of fellowship afterward. The day ended as I lead in prayer prayer of thanksgiving for the realization of Silas' dream. Having professors from Montana Bible College come to Kenya to teach was a vision he had had for years. Today it had come to pass.
At supper Gracie was not feeling well and by bedtime Ryan was feeling a bit nauseous. We prayed and wondered what we would do if he could not answer the bell the following morning.
Tuesday morning Ann and I awoke early and discussed what we might have to do to fill in for the day. Our quickly laid plans were not required as Ryan declared himself well enough to teach. The little red car was doing as well as could be expected. Today it would be tested as Nelson and I joined the other four occupants. Nelson would be riding his bike to class but we would be taking him partway. We pulled to the side of the road to let him out and deliver the day's extra milk from Silas' cows to a vender. We waited as it was poured from the two plastic jugs into a traditional galvanized five gallon milk can. Soon we were on our way to the college.
While Ryan taught I worked with the computer printer to prepare worksheets for Ann's afternoon class. The trip home was completed without incident.
For my afternoon project I worked on the metal gate at the drive coming into the yard. The top hinge on one side was broken. With all that I had learned Sunday I was able to with some effort effect a repair. Now we will see how it holds up. After getting cleaned up I played with the kids for awhile. As it got close to 7:00 the kids starting wondering where mommy was since she had gone with Ann. Gracie and I walked out to the main road but no little red cars were in sight. We surmised there had been an auto failure of some sort. Soon after we got back the travelers arrived back with bags filled with purchases. Tuesday is market day in Ziwa and they had all taken time to visit the teeming marketplace. There had in fact been a flat tire to change and drop off. That added to the delay. Supper was served about 9:00 and after an evening prayer we all turned in. Ann asked me to catch her up on the last two days of blog but she had no remembrance of any of it this AM. I will be teaching with Ann tomorrow, computers on Friday and Sunday school on Saturday so Ann and I spent this AM in study. Thanks for your interest and your prayers. Uploading pictures is a sometime successful activity. I will continue efforts in that regard. May God bless you all.
